SANTE researchers have developed fluoride-free toothpastes that clinical studies have shown to protect against tooth decay, plaque development and gum disease. Xylitol is a natural sugar alcohol contained in many kinds of vegetables and fruits, and is also produced in the human body. Xylitol causes these bacteria to lose the ability to adhere to cells, without which they cannot multiply and cause infection.

The SANTE sponsored study was conducted by the prestigious Poliklinik for Dental Health Research (Zahnerhaltungskunde) of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany. The study confirmed the effectiveness of the fluoride-free SANTE dental med toothpastes in inhibiting the development and growth of bacteria associated with tooth decay and gum disease.
